Growth Mindset

Make your life easier, even if you wouldn’t like to do

Studying English

I used to avoid studying literature, favouring subjects like math and science. Writing essays, even in my first language, Japanese, was something I disliked. This lack of motivation persisted until I experienced a turning point. When my youngest child started secondary school, I began contemplating my career. I was certain that I didn’t want to continue in my current job as a kitchen assistant at my children’s school.

I pondered day after day; generally, I am not an opinionated person. Then, it clicked! A police dog handler. I was healthy, physically fit, and I loved training dogs, often immersing myself in police dramas. That night, I shared my newfound aspiration with my husband. He responded, ‘That really suits you!’ and I smiled back at him. My journey began. I researched the criteria for becoming a police officer and discovered the requirement for English Functional Level 2. Therefore, I embarked on studying English.

I wouldn’t have taken this path without a goal. Aspiring to become a police dog handler motivated me to study English, taking a step closer to my goal.

This is a demonstration of a Growth Mindset.
